The Texas Bowl will kick off its annual golf tournament on Wednesday, December 2 at the Kingwood Country Club with proceeds benefiting DePelchin Children’s Center and the Southern Texas PGA.  The 2009 Texas Bowl Gridiron Legends Golf Tournament Presented by OfficeMax marks the first community event the Texas Bowl will host as part of its 2009 bowl festivities.

“OfficeMax delights customers with innovation and fun, and the Texas Bowl and the Gridiron Legends Golf Tournament have helped us raise the bar even higher,” David Peterson Vice President of Sales for OfficeMax said.  “This is an event that keeps our key Texas customer relationships strong.”

As a unique opportunity for participants in the tournament, each foursome will be partnered with a legendary figure from the world of sports.  Special guests include past and present inductees of the Gridiron Legends, the bowl game’s honorary society of football greats, as well as fan favorites like Mark Adickes, Ed Biles, Larry Dierker, Kenny Houston, Billy “White Shoes” Johnson, Dan Pastorini, and Jackie Sherrill.

“We feel this is a great opportunity for people in the community to come out and support the bowl and two great charities in our city,” said Texas Bowl manager Heather Houston.  “The opportunity to spend a few hours with Hall of Famers and sports icons is something that every sports fan looks forward to.”

Trophies will be awarded to the top four teams , and all participants will have the opportunity to enter a raffle for two to attend the Big 12 Football Championship at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

Foursomes for the tournament are available for $1,000 with individual tournament registrations open for $250.  Each golfer will receive breakfast, lunch, beverages on the course, and a one-of-a-kind goody bag.  In addition, hole sponsorships can be purchased for $100 each and include recognition at the tournament and the Texas Bowl’s website.

“Considering the weather, December is one of the best months to golf in Houston,” Houston commented.  “We look forward to making this a great tradition for the city and helping out some deserving organizations.”
