Texas Bowl Insider: Week 1
★ posted on August 31, 2009
The Texas Bowl is ready to kick-off the 2009 college football season, and we are proud to bring you the Official Texas Bowl Newsletter — your source for all the latest college football information. This year’s game will host a Big 12 team and the Navy Midshipmen in what is sure to be the biggest game to date.
It has been an exciting “off-season” for the Texas Bowl! We donated $75,000 to our charity beneficiary, DePelchin Children’s Center, at their annual luncheon and continue to proudly support Houston’s oldest charity. In addition, we have partnered with ESPN to broadcast the game this year on Thursday, December 31 at 2:30 p.m. The 2009 Gridiron Legends will be announced and honored at tonight’s Houston Texans game when they take on Brett Favre and the Minnesota Vikings. What a great start to the 2009 season!
This newsletter is designed to help you keep up with all the latest football action and Texas Bowl updates, so feel free to email us at .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) if you have any comments or suggestions.

Conference Football Updates
The Big 12 Conference promises to be as strong and exciting as ever this year with some big games on the 2009 horizon. Last year’s history-making 3-way tie between Oklahoma, Texas and Texas Tech raised questions across the board and those teams are ready to set the record straight, with Oklahoma State close on their heels. Baylor will look to stand-out QB Robert Griffin to make waves and give the Bears their first bowl berth in 15 years.
The Navy Midshipmen hope to earn their 7th consecutive bowl berth and Commander-In-Chief’s Trophy as they push for the 7 wins needed to play in the 2009 Texas Bowl. Lindy’s Preseason College Football Magazine projects Navy to go 9-4.
As your source for college football, the Texas Bowl will continue to cover Conference USA and the hometown Rice Owls and Houston Cougars. 2009 should be equally as exciting as the 2008 season in which the league boasted the nation’s No. 1 overall offense (Tulsa), the individual leader in total offense (Houston QB Case Keenum) and the top freshmen receivers in terms of yards and touchdowns (Southern Miss WR DeAndre Brown) as well as catches (Houston WR Tyron Carrier). Look for Conference USA to turn some heads in 2009.
Bowl Outlook — Big 12 & Conference USA
ESPN forecasters Mark Schlabach and Bruce Feldman have predicted the 2009 bowl lineup and picked the Baylor Bears to take on the Navy Midshipmen in the 2009 Texas Bowl. Below are the bowls and picks with Big 12 or Conference USA teams or you can See the full list at ESPN.
